Metal Finishes

Polished finishes are bright and shiny. Antique finishes darken the recessed areas so the details stand out.

2D or 3D

This decides how your artwork is cut into the metal.

2D Flat Levels

Flat, stepped layers with sharp, clean detail. Best for logos, lettering and patch or badge replicas.

3D Sculpted

Rounded, carved depth like a small sculpture. Best for helmets, apparatus, eagles and badges.

You can mix both on one coin. Not sure? Send your design and we'll tell you what looks best.

Coin Options

Soft Enamel

Color sits slightly below the raised metal so you can feel the detail. The most popular choice.

Hard Enamel

Color is polished flat with the metal for a smooth, jewelry like finish.

No Color

All metal with no enamel. Looks best with an antique finish.

Double Sided

A different design on the back, or the same on both sides.

Custom Shapes

Maltese crosses, shields, badges and cutouts. Your coin doesn't have to be round.

Two Tone Plating

Mix two metals, like gold and silver, on the same coin.

Epoxy Coating

A clear dome over soft enamel to protect the color.

Spinners & Bottle Openers

A center piece that spins, or a bottle opener built into the coin.

Sizes

Most coins are 1.75" to 2", but we can go smaller or larger.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order?

Our minimum is 25 coins.

How much do custom challenge coins cost?

Every order is custom quoted. Price depends on size, quantity, finish, colors, edge and any add ons. Send us the details and we'll get back to you with a quote.

Can you match our department patch or badge?

Yes. Send us a photo or your original artwork. If we already made your patch or badge, we can usually work right from that file.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D coins?

2D coins are cut in flat, stepped layers, which is best for logos, lettering and patch or badge replicas. 3D coins are sculpted with rounded depth, which is best for helmets, apparatus, eagles and badges. Many coins use both.

What edge options do you offer?

A flat edge is included. Rope, cross cut, petal cut, oblique line, flat weave and reed edges are also available.

What is the difference between soft and hard enamel?

Soft enamel sits below the raised metal, so you can feel the texture. Hard enamel is polished flat with the metal for a smooth finish. Soft enamel is the most popular for department coins.

What size should our coin be?

Most department coins are 1.75" to 2". Bigger coins have room for more detail. Not sure? Tell us what goes on it and we'll recommend a size.

How long do challenge coins take?

Coins take about 5 to 6 weeks after you approve the digital proof. Need them sooner? Tell us your deadline and we'll be straight with you about what we can hit.
